5 Tips For Efficient Home Heating
Make sure nothing is blocking your vents - Don’t make your furnace work more than in needs to. Double check to make sure there is nothing blocking your heating vents. Be sure to vacuum out dust or pet hair from the dampers to ensure they are working effectively.
Replace your filter - Be sure to consistently check your furnace filter. You'll want to change it when it’s visibly dirty or every 3 months. The best way to remember is to mark it on your calendar :). Consider having your heating and cooling system serviced by a qualified technician to ensure savings over time.
Change your fan to run the right way - Make sure your ceiling fan is running counter clockwise in the fall/winter. Heat rises, so the warmest air is closest to the ceiling. When your fan runs the right way it will push that air up into the ceiling and then down along your walls, adding an extra layer of warmth.
Sun heat - Keep your window covers on the south side of your home open during the day to enjoy heat from the sun. Close them again in the evening to keep out the cold.
Set your thermostat - Whether you do it manually or with a programmable thermostat, lower your home's temperature while you sleep or if you are away from home to save energy.
